NOTD: Confettis

Tuesday, 26 February 2013

I bought Confettis after seeing lots of people swatch this and thought it was so pretty. It kind of reminds me of salt and pepper, as it's a clear base with black and white hexagonal and circular shapes. I paired it with Models Own 'Utopia', which is one of my go-to polishes, however this topcoat would go with pretty much every colour (except black and white). I've seen it used with all sorts of colours on other blogs and it looks lovely. I find it works best when dabbed onto the nail and it's also great if you've chipped or made a dent in your nail polish, as you can just dab it over the top (as I did on my second finger below). I found this a bit of a pain to remove, as it's essentially like a glitter nail polish. However I really love this topcoat and will definitely be using it a lot in the coming months.

Have you picked this nail polish up?

NOTD: Frozen Yoghurt

3 coats of MUA nail varnish in 'Frozn Yoghurt' and 1 coat of Models Own 'Disco Mix' on the ring finger

I picked up this nail polish from MUA for a mere £1! It's a pretty midtone purple, with a kind of cornflower blue-esque quality. I found that it was mostly opaque after 2 coats, but had a few streaks. So I did 3 coats in total to even it out and I was left with this beaut. The brush is super thin and I found the short length and wide lid a little difficult and annoying to manage. I decided to put Models Own 'Disco Mix' onto my ring finger as I thought it would jazz it up a little and I think the colours of the glitters are very Autumnal. I have a small dent in the polish on that nail, as I touched it by accident before it had fully dried. Grr. I was impressed with the longevity of the nail polish, as after 4 days there were still no chips. I'm seriously impressed, especially since this cost me a measly £1!

Have you ever used any MUA nail polishes before?

Cling Film Manicure

Tuesday, 14 August 2012

Leanne posted a picture and tutorial of the saran wrap manicure (aka cling film manicure in the UK) and it seemed fairly simple, so I thought I'd give it a go.

The base colour is Models Own 'Utopia' and the top colour is H&M 'Blue My Mind'. I really love how it looks and I like how each nail looks different! I think it's great as a top coat if your current nail colour is looking a little worse for wear or if you don't have time to change your nail colour. I will definitely be doing this again as it was so simple to do and only took about 5 minutes!

What do you think? Will you be trying the cling film/saran wrap manicure?

2 coats of Models Own Nail Polish in 'Blooboo'

This is a lovely, bright pastel blue polish, which is perfect for Spring/Summer. After a few days, I did notice that the colour dulls a little and isn't as bright. In the bottle, there is a pearlescent blue shimmer running through it, however that does not translate onto the nails.

It takes 2 thick coats (or 3 thinner coats) to become fully opaque, as the first coat is extremely sheer. The formula of Models Own nail polishes is always great to use and the wear is also fantastic. I've had this on my nails for a few days now and there are no chips in sight.

What are your favourite Models Own nail polishes?

2 coats of Models Own Nail Polish in 'Utopia'

This is a lovely milky, pale lilac colour, which is a lovely alternative to the typical summer pastels. The application was great. Each coat dried quickly and the colour was streaky with 1 coat and opaque with two coats. I find Models Own polishes last well on my nails and remain chip free for days. I am seriously impressed with Models Own nail polishes!

Why is my application always so messy?! Haha! I always get nail polish over my cuticles and, for some reason, on the lids of the nail polishes. Does anyone have any tips for neat application?

Models Own Ibiza Mix

Tuesday, 17 April 2012

I showed this polish in my last post/video and I am so in love with it! Ibiza Mix has a clear base with lots of multi coloured glitters.

From the macro shot above, you can see that there are hexagonal glitter pieces and smaller hexagons and circles. As I mentioned in my haul video, the polish is very similar to OPI Rainbow Connection, however the colours are different. There are lovely blues, turquoises, purples, golds, etc. in Ibiza Mix whereas Rainbow Connection has colours more along the lines of pinks, greens and silvers.

Please excuse the cut on my pointer and my horrible cuticles!
On the nails: Thumb - One layer/ Pointer - Two layers/ Middle - Three layers/ Ring - One layer over Models Own Utopia/ Pinkie - One layer over Orly Black Out

As you can see, with one layer, you get a nice spattering of glitter but the polish is easily buildable. Just ensure that each layer is completely dry before doing the next one. It looks lovely layered over pale polishes and dark polishes, so it's great as a versatile glitter topcoat. I found that if you brush the topcoat on like a normal polish, it doesn't deposit the glitter very well, so careful placement is needed. Unlike other glitter polishes, I found it really easy to remove, which was a pleasant surprise!

I actually bought another glitter polish today, which I will show you soon. I seriously need a slap on the back of my hand for buying more! But I'm so obsessed with nail polish at the moment, especially glitter polishes!).

What do you think of Ibiza Mix? What are you favourite glitter polishes?

Diagonal NOTD

Monday, 19 March 2012

I don't normally paint my nails very often, as I have clinic most days, and I rarely ever do nail art as I am not creative or precise enough to do it! However, last week I decided to not only paint my nails, but also do some nail art. It isn't anything special or complicated, but I really like the way it turned out and thought I'd share it:

Firstly I painted 1 coat of Nails Inc 'Piccadily Circus', allowed it to dry fully and then I stuck cellotape over the nails diagonally. I probably could have angled it better on some nails (e.g. my middle finger), but I don't mind that it's not 100% perfect. That's what practice is for! Then I painted 1 coat of Models Own 'Champagne', although I probably should have done 2 coats... Allow this to dry fully before removing the cellotape, as it could end up a big mess if you remove it too early!

Are you a fan of nail art/designs?

2 coats of Models Own Nail Polish in 'Champagne'

After seeing a couple of blogs with NOTDs in this polish, I knew I had to have it. This is the most amazing colour ever - It's a silvery/gold with fine glitter. So perfect for the festive season. It applied like a dream. The formula is easy to work with and with 1 coat, you get a gorgeous opaque colour. Due to habit, I painted another coat on top which just topped off the colour and gave a perfect finish. Due to this being a glittery polish, I can imagine that it'll be a pain to remove, but because the colour is so pretty, it's worth it. (Can you tell how much I love the colour?!)

I think I might be investing in some more Models Own nail polishes in the near future. Do any of you have any colour recommendations?

xoxo, Joy

ETA: In contrary to my theory that this would be difficult to remove, it was as easy to remove as any other! This was a pleasant surprise, since I was imagining that I would be there forever!
