"Dance is the hidden language of the soul" - Martha Graham

I was re-watching Black Swan last night and it reminded me how much I love ballet and how much I miss taking ballet lessons. Ballet has always been one of my passions/hobbies. I took ballet lessons from the age of 3 to 18 and dance kind of consumed my life. I had to do a 5 minute presentation about one of my hobbies at a uni interview, so I decided to do it about the Royal Ballet. Approximately 10 minutes, 35 slides and millions of photos later, I was still talking... Oops! Although I wasn't always in love with it, as I grew up I fell more in love with the steps, the musicality and the prima ballerinas. I stopped taking ballet lessons due to my A-Levels and really wish I hadn't. I'm tempted to look for an adult ballet class in Birmingham, but my uni timetable will be rather crazy next year, so I don't know if that will be a possibility...

Inspired by 'Black Swan' and all the ballet trends at the moment, I decided to share a few of my favourite ballet photos with you. It took me ages to pick these, because I have so many favourites!

Do/Did any of you take ballet lessons? What are your passions?

Thank you for reading. xoxo, Joy

  1. I didn't know you do ballet. I do too! Although I was a late starter and because of this can't find any adult classes that aim to end up on pointe...most are just for exercise *sigh*.

  4. I also did ballet throughout my life! And I continue to practice dance leisurely as a hobby, just like blogging :) It's something you can never forget :) I haven't seen Black Swan yet! I'm kind of avoiding it because I felt like I had similar experiences as a teenager! ;P

  7. @Dina - Ooh, I didn't know you do it!! That sucks that most adult classes are just for exercise :( I'd want to find one that could develop my pointe skills too. xx

    @Sarah - I felt like that for a while too, before completely changing my mind about it. I feel the same way about playing the piano and violin. xx

    @Rach - Thank you, that's so sweet of you. xx

    @Rainy Days and Lattes - I agree, you never forget ballet. I can still remember some of the exercises from my classes. I really should try and keep up ballet leisurely, but I don't really have anywhere with enough space to do it :( xx

    @Tiffyama - Thanks, I agree - It's such a beautiful art form. xx

    @Rachel - I know what you mean. I think ballet is amazing where anybody can watch a ballet and enjoy it :) xx
